SANDMAN HARVEST FOUNDATION / JOSH DYCK FOUNDATION

The Sandman Harvest Foundation is committed to creating hope and opportunity for the recovery and treatment of sick children in the Okanagan. Over the past 13 years the foundation has raised over $850,000 and will continue to build on this investment in the future years.

Over the past three years, Sandman has sponsored the Celebrity Golf Classic at the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna, BC. The event raises money for the Foundation and has been a great success. The Golf Classic has attracted celebrities such as Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames, Chuck Kobesaw of the Boston Bruins (Honorary Chairperson, 2008) and former Vancouver Canuck, Greg Adams.

The Sandman Harvest Celebrity Golf Classic also raises money for the Josh Dyck Foundation. The three-year-old Josh Dyck was traveling to Kelowna on Highway 97 in October 2006 when he was involved in a head-on collision, which sent him and his parents to different hospitals with serious injuries. Sandman Hotel Group and the Harvest Golf Club have established the Josh Dyck Foundation to help pay for Josh's medical and rehabilitation expenses and a trust fund has been set up in his name.

SPORT BC

Sandman Hotel Group is pleased to announce their partnership with Sport BC. Starting December 2008, the multi-faceted partnership provides support to participating Provincial Sports Organizations with programs including preferred rates and benefits.

Sport BC is a not-for-profit organization built on the belief of creating and sustaining healthy communities. For more than 40 years Sport BC has been the federation for organized amateur sport in British Columbia; providing valuable shared services and value-added programs to its membership, and the sport sector.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE

A three year partnership with the Sandman Hotel Group and the WHL has been formed to help foster the growth of the Western Hockey League. Starting January 2009, the comprehensive partnership will provide support to the 22 WHL clubs with programs including preferred rates and benefits. As a corporate sponsor, Sandman Hotel Group has become "The Official Hotel of the WHL".

The WHL now has representation in all four Western Canadian provinces and the US states of Oregon and Washington. With the addition of the Edmonton Oil Kings for the 2007-08 season, the WHL now consists of 22 member clubs with 17 based in Canadian markets and 5 in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

COMEDY COURAGE

Sandman is a proud supporter and sponsor of the Comedy Courage organization and annual Laughing & Giving from the Heart Gala. The first Gala was held at a Sandman property as founder of Comedy Courage, Darcy James, called on a long time friend and associate, Andrea Gaglardi and asked to use the Sandman ballroom and the Sandman staff.

Comedy Courage offers a free program to teach people with mental health issues to build confidence, self-esteem, and social skills by developing a three to ten minute stand-up comedy routine about their mental health journey to wellness. Comedy Courage is firmly committed to the belief that laughter and humor are powerful ways to cope with adversity, and would like to bring that message to mental health consumers and the general public.

BC LIONS

Sandman is proud and excited to be entering our third, very successful, year of being a major sponsor with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. One of the primary components and one that generates a lot of buzz in BC Place Stadium at the home games, is the flight of the Sandman Blimp. Flying during all pre-game and half-time activities, the blimp makes its way around the stadium dropping free hotel room night certificates, gift certificates for Sandman, Moxie's Classic Grill and Denny's 24 hour Restaurant, among other goodies.

Sandman also receives several nights in a corporate hospitality box at BC Place Stadium and uses the opportunity to say thank you to several of our clients and suppliers throughout the season.

 
KAMLOOPS BLAZERS

Located in Kamloops, British Columbia, the Kamloops Blazers have a long and storied history as one of the most dynamic clubs in the Western Hockey League. Having graduated such NHL players as Jarome Iginla, Mark Recchi, Daryl Sydor and Shane Doan, the players felt it important to give back to the team that gave them their start and as such, joined up with Tom Gaglardi, President of the Sandman Hotel Group and purchased the struggling franchise.

Since then, the transformation has been remarkable, hiring a new coaching staff and a new GM have made a world of difference. The team is well on their way to achieving their former glory. Sandman is a big part of that and is heavily involved in cross promotions, including their very own Sandman Blimp which flies during their games.

CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Based on the success of Sandman's association with the BC Lions, we made, what turned out to be, a wise decision and inked a deal with the Calgary Stampeders at the beginning of the 2008 season. Coincidentally, the year they won the Grey Cup. Having a number of properties located in Alberta, the association just made sense. One of the prominent features of our agreement was the extremely visible Sandman logo, placed into the field turf, giving us exposure to the large CFL TV crowds. We are very happy with our involvement with the Stampeders and plan on continuing our mutually beneficial partnership.
